How a case works
Home screen: the case of the day

A case is a plan and a few statements

Every investigation starts with a floor plan: a house, a train carriage, a theatre, a ship. On it stand five suspects and a victim, and the witnesses say what they saw.

  1. Read the statements

Who stood by the window, who heard footsteps, who was near the weapon. Each line rules out part of the plan.

  2. Place everyone on the plan

One person in every row and every column. Furniture adds its own rules, and the statements tell you who was where.

  3. Name the killer

The killer is the one left alone with the victim, and the weapon lies in that same room. Each case has exactly one solution, checked by a solver.

Witness interrogation: an answer and a field to ask in your own words

Ask in your own words

Question witnesses the way you would talk to a real person: type the question or say it out loud. AI works out what you are asking, and the answers are written by the case's authors.

A witness lies in one situation only: when they are the killer.

Ciphers you crack with your hands

21kinds of ciphers, each with its own tool

Every cipher comes with a tool in your hands: a Morse key with a lamp, flag semaphore, braille, a Caesar ring, a typewriter, a tailor's tape.

  • Morse key
  • Semaphore
  • Braille
  • Caesar ring
  • Typewriter
  • Tailor's tape
  • and 15 more

Cipher: flag semaphore

Five under suspicion

The suspects are shot like 1950s film stills: one warm lamp, everything else in shadow. You can question every one of them.

Seasons, like books

A season is told in chapters. A chapter is four cases and a finale built from notes found in the earlier ones. Read closely: you will need them at the end.

Questions and answers

How much does it cost?

You can start for free: the case of the day is open every day, and the first case of each season is free. After that a season is bought whole, or unlocked with the Bureau pass.

Are there ads?

No. No banners and no videos before a case.

When is it out?

It is coming soon to the App Store for iPhone. When it lands, the link will be here.

How does the interrogation work?

You ask by text or by voice. AI works out what you mean, and the reply comes from texts written by the case's authors.

Do witnesses lie?

Only the killer does. Everyone else tells the truth.

Can a case have more than one solution?

No. Every case has exactly one solution, and a solver checks it.

Can I share my result?

Yes, without spoilers: friends see your result, but not the killer's name.
